Welcome to Douglas Baily's Personal Page
69 Flights I 1,356 Steps I 788 Ft. Vertical ElevationClimb. Conquer. Cure.
Greetings family and friends,
I will be participating in the 28th annual LLS Firefighter Stairclimb on Sunday, March 10th in support of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). Before I ascend the Columbia Center in downtown Seattle, WA, I will be raising funds throughout the season WITH THE GOAL OF HELPING funding and finding a cure. Please consider making a donation to not only help me achieve my personal fundraising goal, but to benefit patients and their families everywhere.
FOR THOSE OF YOU IN THE MID-VALLEY I AM WORKING ON SEVERAL TICKET PACKAGES WITH THE CORVALLIS KNIGHTS. LASTLY, I AM WORKING ON A COUPLE OF DINE IN EVENTS WITH LOCAL RESTAURANTS. MORE ON THESE TO FOLLOW.
This event is personal. This spring my former Chief's son, who had been cancer free... died when his AML returned. I cannot begin to fathom what his parents and family experienced. I am not going to set any records during the climb, but I would like to break through $5000 IN FUNDRAISING this year. Last year Corvallis Fire was in the top ten for fundraising; $45,000 +. Not a bad bit of work for a department our size. If we have a "good" year, we could break through $200,000 for total funds raised since we started participating at the event.
OFFICIALLY, I RETIRED FROM CFD 1 NOVEMBER 2018. I AM WORKING PART TIME UNTIL A REPLACEMENT IS ON BOARD. YESTERDAY IN TRAINING I RAN 1495 STAIRS IN ~31 MINUTES. THAT INCLUDES THE DESCENTS. GOAL FOR THIS YEAR IS BREAK 20 MINUTES.
We all know someone who has faced a blood cancer...thanks in advance for your consideration of donating to this event.
What is the LLS Firefighter Stairclimb?
The LLS Firefighter Stairclimb is the world's largest on-air stair climb competition, and annual fundraiser held at the tallest building in town, the Columbia Center. All 2,000 participants are career or volunteer firefighters who will climb up the second tallest skyscraper west of the Mississippi in full turnout gear, weighing over 50 pounds, while on-air. Throughout the 69 flights of stairs, 1,356 steps, and 788 ft. of vertical elevation gain, we all remember that every step forward is representative of moving closer to a cure. Although this is an extreme test of physical endurance, it pales in comparison to what blood cancer patients endure. All proceeds raised directly benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and since its inception in 1991, this event has raised over $17 million thus far.
UPDATE 3 FEBRUARY 2019: i MET MY FIRST GOAL (THANKS AUNT GWEN) AND HAVE BOOSTED THE GOAL BY 2X; NOW $3600.00. FOR THOSE OF YOU DONATING ON THE 4TH, THANKS FOR HELPING LEVERAGE THE MATCHING FUNDS.
UPDATE 4 FEBRUARY 2019: THANKS TO ALL WHO HELPED BLAST MY GOAL OUT OF THE WATER IN ONE DAY; YOU ROCK! TIME TO RAISE THE GOAL TO 3X; NEW GOAL IS $5400.00.
Well, I asked and you met the 3X goal. New goal in now 4x the original at $7200.00 and I am at 75% of that revised goal. currently i am in 10th place overall for fundraising; your additional support can keep me solidly in the top ten. several local fundraising efforts will help contribute our teams efforts.
Thank you for your time, consideration, and sincere generosity. We climb because beating cancer is in our blood.
