BIG CLIMB 2020 "NEVER GIVE UP"
Today I had the opportunity to meet and climb with Charlie, a 10 year cancer survivor and BIG CLIMB participant whose motto is “Never Give Up”. Charlie’s dad told us that many cancer patients feel very alone during their journey and the BIG CLIMB is a way for 3,000 people to come together showing support and raising funds for lifesaving treatments.
My numbers at Howe Street were 1,402 stairs, 1133ft elevation gain, max heart rate 153 bpm and burning 584 calories. My goal this year is a sub 15 minute climb. I have already achieved my fundraising goal of $3,924 thanks to my cousin Pat McNerthney, a firefighter stair climber and generous Seahawk and Sounders fans outside Century Link field. I’m dedicating this year’s climb to Paul Gardner Allen, owner of the Seahawks and co-owner of the Sounders who passed away in October 2018 due to a sudden reoccurrence of non-Hodgkins Lymphoma.
Although I’ve achieved a fundraising goal there is still more work to be done to fund Leukemia & Lymphoma Societies efforts in helping millions impacted by cancer and fund breakthrough research to advance lifesaving treatments and cures. Thank you for your time and I hope that you will consider donating to this cause!
