I’m going to do a “SPRING DOUBLE” (Again)
What is a “SPRING DOUBLE”? This spring I am going to once again participate in two Leukemia and Lymphoma Society fundraising events. On Sunday, March 22nd, I will, along with 50 teammates and volunteers, be climbing the 69 floors and 1311 steps of the Columbia Tower as members of CRAIG’S LEGS. On June 6th, I will again be joining LLS sponsored Team in Training for America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride, a 100 mile bicycle ride around Lake Tahoe.
In February of 2013, I was diagnosed with stage 3 Follicular Lymphoma, a slow growing, but potentially fatal blood cancer. I began treatment in a clinical trial involving a targeted cell therapy and immunotherapy. It was also in 2013 that my employees, “The Craigettes”, organized a secret volunteer team for the Big Climb and worked under the motto “No one fights alone!” They presented LLS and the Big Climb a donation of nearly $7000 in my name. I was “blown away”, and have cherished their continued support.
2020 marks the seventh year of the “climbing” CRAIG’S LEGS team. With the support of family, friends, friends of friends, patients, Nakanishi Dental Lab and their employees, we have enjoyed both financial and emotional support as we continue to help find cures and better treatments, not only for blood cancers, but all cancers. This year CRAIG’S LEGS will be close to raising an accumulative total of $360,000 in support of ending this terrible disease. WAY TO GO, TEAM!
I am now in remission. I take no medications for my lymphoma. I am full of energy and hope. My treatment protocol is one of the many new advances made in blood cancer treatment options. These new options carry over into new treatments for many other types of cancer. There is still a long way to go, however! Over the past several years, two of our honored teammates and friends have lost the battle with their blood cancers. There were no cures for them.
Please support me as I climb in their memories to find better and better treatments.
