Climb. Conquer. Cure.
Hello! I will be participating in the Scott Firefighter Stairclimb on Sunday, March 11th in support of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). Please support me with a donation by clicking the donate button. Our efforts will help make a big difference in the fight against blood cancers. Thank you for your generosity!
A Word From Mike
Many people ask why I do it every year. Well, this year has another major significance to me and my family. My mother was diagnosed with stage 2 Lymphoma just recently. This has been an ongoing fight for her and one of the reasons I feel so passionate about this event. In honor of my mother, I am not only starting my fund raising a month early but added $5K to my goal to get rid of this disease. I have also been made aware of a little 12 year old girl names Kaylee Rankin who is fighting stage 4 Hodgkins Lymphoma. My mother appreciates the suppport but knows my passion should be focused on our kids as it always has been. We need to give them a fighting chance. Kaylee is doing what she can to fight this disease and now we need to step up and do our part. Your part is simple, you donate. I'll do all the heavy lifting, just help us out a little.
I first became aware of this disease when good friends of mine, Tony and Trish Martwicks cousin Larry became sick and passed away in his 20's from Leukemia. It really hit home when my cousin, one of my childhood heros, Steve Swearingen, also passed from Leukemia. Who can sit and watch these things unfold without doing something about it?? Not me. Since then a close childhood friend Jim Piper fought the beast and kicked its ass. But in the same space of time, our community lost a precious soul in 4 year old Addy Jo Clifton. Yes, four years old. How can that be fair? Good friends Chris and Amy Edwards lost their paternal figure with Amy's father, Phil, and Jody Gibson also lost her mother. These are a few of many reasons why I cask all of you to just give a little. Place your business behind it and get some advertising. Place your donations in memory of someone. It all matters! Thanks to all who have supported me in the past and thanks to those who are going to jump on aboard this year. You make a difference!!
What is the Scott Firefighter Stairclimb?
The Scott Firefighter Stairclimb is the world's largest on-air stair climb competition at the Columbia Center in downtown Seattle. We compete in full combat gear weighing close to 50 pounds. There are 69 flights of stairs, 1,356 steps, and 788 ft. of vertical elevation gain. Although it will be challenging, it pales in comparison to what blood cancer patients must go through. All proceeds benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
What is The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society?
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is the world's largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research, education and patient services. The mission of LLS is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. Since its founding in 1949, LLS has invested nearly $1 billion to advance cancer therapies and save lives.
Thank you for your time and I hope that you will consider donating to this cause! Remember, every dollar counts when someone's life depends on it!
Love you all! Thanks for making this so special to me and my supporters.
